BEIRUT - HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global participated as a keynote speaker at the "ESCWA Expert Group Meeting on Artificial Intelligence and Local Industrial Development" held at the UN-House in Beirut, Lebanon.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh emphasized that today’s computing upheaval has propelled our world into an era of unprecedented progress the likes of which has never been seen.

"Digital transformation has brought with it a world of opportunity that mankind has never previously seen with an abundance of disruptive technologies changing the way in which we live and work. The Internet is an opportunity for young people to develop their potential for discovery, innovation and creativity. Distance learning, open courses, educational and foreign language learning sites, social media, news and platforms to inspire solutions through public participation are also available to stimulate the concepts of responsibility and to address the challenges they face." he said, adding that he “wrote a new book called the ‘Brave Knowledge World’ as a factual voyage into the future and its raiding technology along with the opportunities and challenges that will come with it."

The book puts emphasis on the value of modern technology in education and its ability to reach learners who have been deprived of their personal or social circumstances from pursuing their education in traditional educational institutions. It takes the reader to the major technological sites and stopovers of our future human life and it explains how this digital revolution will sow the seeds for generations to come and it also addresses various ethical and moral questions that will need to be addressed.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that we have not been able to extrapolate the future that has begun to enter a new industrial revolution accompanied by a world of knowledge in which the man and the machine, with artificial intelligence developments, will become one society and one unit in terms of automatic interaction of machines with the growing needs of human beings.

He added that “the march of the era of knowledge and the economic crisis are interrelated. So we must take advantage of that crisis and the war that can happen as a result, and we must re-position ourselves to adapt to the age of the knowledge revolution. While countries compete to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution, countries are trying to catch up with the Third Industrial Revolution, while other developing economies are struggling to cope with developments. We need to think ahead, act responsibility with foresight and wisdom for the sake of our future generations.

Dr. Abu Ghazaleh concluded by emphasizing that “All of this requires empowerment. We need our governments to provide attractive environments for technology investments. We need laws and regulations which fully protect the rights of inventors. They need to work hand in hand with the technology giants of the world to make technology accessible and affordable to all in order to fuel innovation.
