Three Providers of Agile Code Development Technologies Named IDC Innovators

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - International Data Corporation (IDC) published an IDC Innovators report identifying three technology providers that are considered key emerging vendors in the agile code development market. The three companies named as IDC Innovators are CloudBees Inc., GitLab Inc., and Sonatype, Inc., according to IDC.

Embracing a DevOps practice means an organization must dramatically accelerate its development practices, moving from a classic monolithic software design model to a more modular design point with clear delineations between software components. This approach allows organizations to life-cycle each portion of code individually, leading to a more rapid update process that can be measured in weeks, days, or even potentially in hours. Part of the agile development process means creating an end-to-end toolchain that may be based on a single solution but will usually incorporate technologies from a variety of other vendors and open source software projects. The IDC Innovators discussed in this IDC Innovators document are key players in an end-to-end DevOps toolchain.

"There are a remarkable number of startups in the overall DevOps space, with many of those companies on the development side providing agile development tools and technologies," said Al Gillen, group vice president, Software Development and Open Source Software. "The companies profiled here help their customers become more agile in the overall development process. We expect most of the technologies being produced by these companies to play a long-term role in the industry."

CloudBees offers enterprise-grade continuous delivery software services based on the open source Jenkins technology. GitLab offers a full DevOps lifecycle in a continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) solution that is available in a variety of deployment form factors. Sonatype's product portfolio allows customers to define open source component policies by the organization, team, and application type.
