Lenovo Joins European Commission’s AI Pact, Strengthening Commitment to Responsible AI Innovation

HONG KONG - Lenovo announced it has signed the European Commission’s AI Pact, underscoring its dedication to developing trustworthy AI systems aligned with global safety and ethical standards. This voluntary initiative supports Lenovo’s wider commitment to delivering Smarter AI for all and taking proactive steps to advance responsible AI practices across its operations and portfolio of solutions, services, and devices, according to the official website of Lenovo.

By becoming a signatory, Lenovo pledges to adopt a comprehensive AI governance strategy, identifying and mitigating risks associated with high-risk AI systems. The company will also work to enhance AI literacy among its employees and implement robust data quality measures for AI model training. Furthermore, Lenovo commits to increasing transparency by clearly labeling AI-generated content and ensuring users are informed when interacting with AI technologies.

“Driving responsible AI is something we charge everyone with doing at Lenovo – from the tools we use and how transparent we are about our use of AI to how we innovate and create products, services, and solutions,” said Doug Fisher, Chief Security and AI Officer at Lenovo.

“With governance at the core of what we do, we ensure we maintain the trust of our customers today and help them navigate the fast-moving landscape of AI in a responsible way into the future too.”

The AI Pact invites organizations to voluntarily align with key provisions of the AI Act before its official implementation. The initiative fosters constructive dialogue between policymakers and AI leaders, encouraging transparency, best practices, and collaboration.

Lenovo’s participation in the AI Pact highlights the company’s proactive approach to preparing for the forthcoming AI regulatory environment and making such considerations foundational to AI-related services and solutions.

This new signing complements other government-led initiatives on responsible AI joined by Lenovo, including commitments with the Canadian government and UNESCO.

“At Lenovo, we’re committed to leading the development of trustworthy AI systems that prioritize safety, privacy, and transparency,” said Shama Patari, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Lenovo. “By joining the European Commission’s AI Pact, we are reinforcing our commitment to working closely with policymakers to drive responsible AI innovation, ensuring Lenovo’s technologies align with the highest ethical standards while delivering societal benefits.”

This agreement builds on Lenovo’s growing investment in AI technologies, including original generative AI models, a hybrid AI approach that prioritizes privacy, security, and power for enterprises and individuals, and a comprehensive portfolio that delivers the latest AI to everyone.

Lenovo has a Responsible AI Committee with an internal governance framework that covers ethical, legal, safety, and privacy-related concerns to ensure the safe and responsible deployment of emerging solutions. Lenovo evaluates AI solutions against the Committee’s pillars of diversity & inclusion, privacy & security, accountability & reliability, explainability, transparency, and environmental & social impact.
