The Ultra-Broadband Industry Launches the "Build AI-Centric UBB Advanced Networks" Initiative - Huawei
ISTANBUL - At the 10th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2024), industry organizations such as Broadband World Association (WBBA) and Omdia, carriers such as China Telecom, Türk Telekom, Swisscom, AIS, HKT, and Awasr, and Huawei jointly launched the "Build AI-Centric UBB Advanced Networks" initiative. Facing network opportunities and challenges in the intelligent era, the industry is called on to work together to build AI-centric UBB Advanced networks, accelerate AI service development, and promote industry prosperity, striding to an intelligent world, a press release stated by Huawei.
Welcoming the initiative, Seizo Onoe, Director of Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said: "Network intelligence is fundamental to our ambitions for future networks. I am glad to see this initiative's emphasis on consensus. We need to work together to create global access to new AI capabilities."
Martin Creaner, Director General of WBBA, noted that WBBA will promote industry development and progress in three aspects centering on ultra-broadband AI: enhancing user experience, reducing operating costs, and increasing business revenue. While many countries have national FBB development strategies in place, it is foreseen that FBB digital gap will grow across different geographical regions by 2028. WBBA aims to close the digital divide in the developing world and drive broadband excellence in the developed world.
Tang Ke, Vice President of China Telecom, said: "China Telecom promotes the construction of an intelligent all-optical network in full strength, and has already built an intelligent and high-speed all-optical network with flat architecture, all-optical, and intelligent operations. In cooperation with Huawei, we have released the world's first '10-gigabit cloud broadband demonstration community' and '10-gigabit integrated service package' and open a new era of 10-gigabit households. China Telecom has designed an integrated edge architecture. Based on the network capabilities of large bandwidth and low latency through edge clouds, it provides households with rich cloud applications and cloud-network services leading the upgrade and evolution of traditional broadband to cloud broadband."
Huawei believes that to provide stronger transmission power in the intelligent era, continuous innovation is required in two areas: UBB for AI and AI for UBB. The innovation we are doing under UBB for AI is based on ultra-large bandwidth, deterministic low latency, and network architecture.
The network-capability improvements support higher quality AI development, which will help carriers achieve business growth. Focusing on AI for UBB, we are applying AI to networks to improve network experience, speed up service provisioning, and streamline network O&M. This helps carriers build highly autonomous networks.
The "Build AI-Centric UBB Advanced Networks" initiative points out the direction for future network development of the industry. All stakeholders in the industry will work together to promote the in-depth convergence of AI technologies and network solutions, promote business innovation and transformation, and bolster industry prosperity, striding to a new intelligence era.
