OPPO Unveils Groundbreaking AI Research and Innovative AI Phone Features at SIGGRAPH 2024

DENVER - The world's leading smart device brand, once again participated in SIGGRAPH, the premier annual conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques. At the conference, OPPO showcased several cutting-edge AI research papers and introduced its latest AI phones, the Find X7 Ultra and Reno12 Pro, equipped with powerful generative AI capabilities, garnering significant attention from the industry, according to the official website of OPPO.

Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration: Driving AI-Enhanced Smartphone Experiences
OPPO has been actively promoting deep integration of industry, academia, and research in the AI field. At this year's SIGGRAPH, OPPO publicly showcased for the first time two collaborative papers with Zhejiang University, sharing its cutting-edge research achievements in mobile AI with the academic community.

Mob-FGSR, jointly developed by OPPO and Zhejiang University, is a real-time rendering super-resolution technology for mobile platforms and is poised to set a new industry benchmark in the field of mobile super-resolution, frame interpolation and extrapolation. It reconstructs motion vectors through splatting, eliminating the need for high-end GPUs or optical flow estimation hardware, allowing for precise pixel-level motion prediction and efficient interpolation and extrapolation frame generation. This significantly reduces hardware requirements and processing time. Currently, OPPO has achieved fast 720P and 1080P frame generation and super-resolution processing on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Mob-FGSR technology is expected to revolutionize the gaming experience on OPPO smartphones.

Another significant outcome of the industry-academia collaboration showcased at the conference is Portrait3D. This technology has vast applications in virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile gaming, and social media, enabling users to create lifelike and immersive virtual avatars. It can even develop unique character models based on text descriptions, representing an exciting advancement in the field of 3D portrait generation.

Additionally, at SIGGRAPH 2024, OPPO showcased two groundbreaking papers from its hardware lab and AI Center, covering 3D digital humans and 3D rendering reconstruction. The UltrAvatar technology can generate drivable 3D virtual humans with lifelike features from a single image or a line of text. In the realm of 3D rendering, the Spacetime Gaussian Feature Splatting technology uses Spacetime Gaussians for efficient multi-frame feature fusion, supporting high-fidelity real-time rendering at 8K 60FPS.

Looking ahead, OPPO will continue to strengthen its commitment to industry-academia-research collaborations and expand its network to cover a broader range of disciplines and research fields, aiming to create an open and integrated innovation ecosystem.

AI Phone Revolution with Generative AI Innovation

In addition to showcasing the latest cutting-edge technologies, OPPO's powerful AI phones, the Find X7 Ultra and Reno12 Pro, made a stunning appearance at SIGGRAPH 2024.

At the exhibition, OPPO's globally acclaimed AI Eraser feature attracted significant attention from attendees and scholars. This technology, based on OPPO's independently developed advanced AI recognition and image generation technology, allows users to remove distractions and fill that space with a single click, revolutionizing the way users edit images.

Except for AI Eraser, OPPO also demonstrated the AI Toolbox and AI Studio feature, first introduced on the Reno12 series. The AI Toolbox integrates three core functions: AI Summary, AI Writer, and AI Speak, all designed to make tedious tasks easier and quicker. AI Studio leverages the powerful AI capabilities of the Reno12 series to help users easily create studio-quality portraits with creative and diverse backgrounds.

Moreover, OPPO showcased several groundbreaking technologies developed by the Computing & Graphics Research Institute, including the latest holographic meteorological rendering engine, advanced mobile ray tracing, and global illumination technologies under cooperation with Qualcomm and successfully implemented on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the first simulated ray tracing effect wallpaper for foldable devices, and the dynamic water ripple effect wallpaper first introduced in the Reno12 series. OPPO once again showcased its relentless exploration at the forefront of mobile computing.

In June 2024, OPPO officially unveiled its commitment to making AI phones accessible to everyone while pointing out the full-stack technological revolution and ecosystem restructuring of AI phones in the future.
