Ericsson Signs Collaboration Agreements with Murata and Sumitomo Electric Industries

STOCKHOLM - Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. have signed separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to explore technologies for next-generation mobile network infrastructure, according to the official website of Ericsson. 

The agreements establish a basis for collaboration on technologies and capabilities that can help enhance network performance and reduce product energy consumption, while supporting resilient and trusted next-generation communications systems in the 6G and artificial intelligence (AI) era. Activities may include joint technology evaluations, knowledge exchange and proof-of-concept activities, with a view to bringing component innovation and system-level expertise closer together in future radio access network solutions for Japanese and global markets.

The collaboration will draw on Ericsson’s global R&D capabilities and its new R&D Center in Yokohama and aims to strengthen joint technology exploration with deep understanding of future system requirements. By bringing together Ericsson's global network expertise and Japan's component leadership, the parties will explore opportunities to accelerate innovation and broaden the applicability of advanced technologies across a range of critical industries.

The agreements reflect Ericsson's long-term commitment to Japan and its ambition to contribute to the country's telecommunications expertise, industrial competitiveness and global technology leadership. By collaborating with Japanese technology partners, Ericsson aims to help translate component excellence into system-level innovations that can serve both Japanese and global markets.

Ericsson began operations at its new R&D Center in Yokohama in April 2026. The center develops advanced radio hardware and software for Japanese and global markets, including high-performing programmable networks, next-generation mobile technologies and open network architectures. It also supports customer and partner collaboration and contributions to international standardization.
